Globally, women are still underrepresented at C-suite and other senior level roles, with just under 3% of Fortune500 Companies’ CEOs being female.

A study conducted by Accenture showed that in the last 30 years more women have obtained a bachelor’s degree than men. Yet, the proportion of women in senior roles remains very low.

Why aren’t women paid at the same level as their male peers? Why is the rate of promotions significantly lower for women? Are companies doing enough to create a diverse workforce when it comes to bridging the gender gap? What are the challenges faced from both the employers’ and women’s perspectives? Where are the opportunities and what can we do to ensure that gender equality becomes a part of companies’ DNA, and indeed the norm?

Pascale Wazen-Palpied is Vice President, Regional Director for Middle East and Africa. In this role, Ms Wazen-Palpied primary responsibilities are to accelerate our growth rate in the MEA region and to attract, develop, and retain top talent. She joined FactSet in 2016. Prior to that she held different sales and management positions at Thomson Reuters in Paris, Beirut and Dubai. Ms Wazen-Palpied hold a Masters in Finance and has over 15 years of industry experience.

Chavan Bhogaita

Chavan Bhogaita currently works as Managing Director & Head of Global Markets Strategy, Infrastructure and Market Insights within First Abu Dhabi Bank’s Global Markets business. He joined the institution in 2009, specialising in GCC credit markets (bonds and sukuk) and has since held various roles within the Global Markets unit.

 

He has over 25 years of professional experience in banking and finance, of which 20 years have been in credit research and analysis, publishing his views and speaking to institutional investors around the world about his areas of expertise. His previous roles include Head of Middle East Credit Research at HSBC (Dubai), Head of Credit Research at Commerzbank (London), and senior credit analyst at Bear Stearns (London), and 6 years prior to his time in financial markets were spent in the areas of corporate recovery & insolvency, audit, and corporate finance in the UK. During his years in credit research Chavan was frequently quoted in media such as the Financial Times, Bloomberg, CNBC, etc.

 

In his current role, Chavan is responsible for a wide range of key areas within the Global Markets business of the bank including Strategy, Infrastructure, Governance & Regulation, and Market Insights among others. He is a member of the senior leadership team of FAB Global Markets. Chavan was the main architect, project manager and MC for the Global Financial Markets Forum which had become established as one of the most prominent financial markets events in MENA over the last decade. At this gathering, he has interviewed live on stage former Heads of State and other prominent individuals including David Cameron, Tony Blair, Nicholas Sarkozy, General Colin Powell, Dr Mohammed El Erian, Dr Ben Bernanke, and Dr Larry Summers among others.

At other gatherings, Chavan has hosted and interviewed personalities such as Michael
Bloomberg, Sir Mervyn King, Anthony Scaramucci and others.

Shada Shaher Elborno

As Regional Head of Global Subsidiaries for the Bank in Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (MENAP), Shada is one of the most senior Emirati female leaders in the UAE’s banking industry. Her knowledge of the business and markets, as well as her proven track record in driving business results, enhancing operational performance, and maximizing profitability, have made her a trusted advisor within the organization and across different client segments.

 

In 2013, Shada was recognized for her significant achievements in the banking sector by the UAE Ministry of Labor and was appointed to the Board of Directors for Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies in 2017.
Shada is most fulfilled when helping people grow professionally. Her passionate belief in people has distinguished her ability to build powerful, diverse teams, and make change happen. Over 25 years at Standard Chartered Bank, she has held several key leadership positions including Regional Head of Business Management, MENAP; Head of Client
Coverage Group, UAE and Head of Financial Institution, UAE.

 

Shada holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from the American College of Switzerland. She also completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Finance from The London Institute of Banking & Finance to better support her organization and clients meet their visions for a more responsible future.

 

Shada is fluent in Arabic and English, highly proficient in French, and enjoys a keen interest in fashion and art

Preesha Persad

Senior Manager Leadership Development | Africa

Preesha is a Leadership Development professional with a career spanning over 10 years, in multiple industries. She is currently a Senior Manager at EY, and looks after Leadership Development for the Africa region. She joined the firm in January 2018 and has been playing a leading role in the implementation of all non-technical learning programs, leadership development programs and EY latest innovation learning platform called EY Badges, across Africa.

 

Prior to EY, she has worked in a variety of industries including Construction and Engineering, Professional services and Pharma, across a range of HR and People Development roles. Preesha is an experienced facilitator and boasts a wealth of experience in Leadership development, talent development, executive coaching and mentoring and organisational development.

 

Preesha holds a BComm Honours degree in Business Management and HR, is an accredited Insights Discovery facilitator, a Strengths finder coach and an internationally accredited DDI facilitator with training, facilitation and coaching experience across 3 continents.
